About the position

The Operations Manager for the Building Materials Division at Palmer-Donavin is responsible for overseeing the production management department, ensuring efficient operations, and managing departmental budgets. This role involves coordinating warehouse and delivery activities, training personnel, and developing operational procedures to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction. The position is based in Raleigh, NC, and reports to the Regional Director of Distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets.
  • Interview, select, and train warehouse and supervisory personnel.
  • Confer with purchasing and sales to coordinate warehouse and delivery activities.
  • Review invoices, work orders, purchase orders, or demand forecasts to estimate peak delivery periods and to issue work assignments.
  • Inspect physical conditions of warehouses, vehicle fleets, or equipment and order maintenance, repairs, or replacements.
  • Schedule and monitor the pickup, delivery, and distribution of building materials products.
  • Respond to customers' or shippers' questions and complaints regarding warehousing and delivery services.
  • Develop and document standard and emergency operating procedures for receiving, handling, storing, shipping, or salvaging products or materials.
  • Develop or implement plans for facility layout and modification, such as racking setup, equipment purchase or changes in space allocation.
  • Track and trace goods while they are en route to their destinations, expediting orders when necessary.
  • Negotiate with carriers, equipment vendors and other representatives for services and preferential rates.
  • Evaluate locations for new warehouses or distribution networks to determine their potential usefulness.
  • Participate in setting transportation and service rates.
  • Examine products or materials to estimate quantities or weight and type of container required for storage or transport.
  • Develop storage and distribution models that include factors such as warehouse locations, customer locations, or available transportation modes to maximize operational efficiency or sustainability.
  • Coordinate with the VP of Operations to plan and implement safety training programs and activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school) preferred, in Logistics or similar area of study.
  • 2 plus years of experience in management.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office and the use of Eclipse.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
