About the position

The Operations Manager at Carter Lumber is responsible for overseeing the operations of a professional lumberyard, ensuring that performance objectives and sales goals are met while controlling costs. This role requires effective management of inventory and staff, as well as strong communication with both field and internal departments to drive success.

Responsibilities

• Manages and implements the overall operations of a pro-oriented store.
• Responsible for the proper execution of all aspects of the policies and procedures of the company.
• Manages the overall yard activities and store office employees of a location.
• Conducts a weekly operational meeting with the management of the market.
• Meets with the General Manager regularly to discuss sales and operational issues.
• Directs and manages all areas of store staff including hiring, communication, motivation, training, discipline, and separation.
• Responsible for all operational staff work schedules.
• Counsels employees on problematic situations and carries out corrective action when necessary.
• Manages inside sales force and ensures sales goals are met.
• Works closely with the General Manager to monitor sales and profit goals.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years experience in a building materials environment.
• Experience in sales, management, and operations.
• Previous experience dealing with contractors.
• Experience analyzing inventory activity.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Outgoing personality with the ability to build relationships with customers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
