About the position

The Operations Manager - Hauling is responsible for overseeing the collections activities for commercial, industrial, and residential customers within a designated geographical area. This role involves managing a team of Operations Supervisors, Dispatchers, Operations Clerks, Drivers, and Helpers, ensuring effective route management and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Operations Manager collaborates with the General Manager and other managers to implement local market strategies that align with the overall strategic operating and marketing plans of the business unit, driving functional excellence and budget achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a staff including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Implement and execute plans to complement the business unit's strategic and operating plan.
  • Ensure maximum productivity and route management systems for commercial, roll-off, and residential routes.
  • Interact with customers and government employees to resolve service concerns and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee effective safety and accident prevention programs to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Lead operations to ensure compliance with environmental, operating, regulatory, safety, accounting, and ethics standards.
  • Approve expenses and manage the budget for the operations department.
  • Develop a best-in-class team and workplace culture, managing performance and talent development.
  • Build and maintain strong relations with government, community, and environmental groups.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience or participation in Republic Services' management trainee program.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to lead change initiatives and direct a large staff.
  • Process-oriented and results-oriented in setting and pursuing aggressive goals.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Collaborative and able to build and work with teams.
  • Creative thinker who challenges conventional solutions.
  • Strong leadership skills with an emphasis on hiring and developing high-performance teams.
