About the position

The Operations Manager for Pathology at Sonic Healthcare USA is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the pathology department, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and leading a team to deliver high-quality patient care. This role involves strategic planning, personnel management, and collaboration with various departments to optimize laboratory operations and improve service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the pathology department under the supervision of the VP of Operations.
  • Assess future personnel and capital equipment needs and monitor budget variances.
  • Ensure maintenance and updates of standard operating procedures for all pathology divisions.
  • Coordinate administrative and personnel-related duties including scheduling and training.
  • Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate independent judgment and decision-making skills in operations management.
  • Complete projects timely and develop the pathology team through training and motivation.
  • Evaluate care/services provided and assess staffing levels and educational needs.
  • Communicate effectively and develop departmental policies and objectives.
  • Maintain continuous performance improvement and adapt to organizational changes.
  • Work with the Purchasing Department to optimize vendor contracts.
  • Act as a resource for the Billing Department to minimize claim rejections.
  • Provide guidance on CPT and ICD-10 codes and participate in quality control activities.
  • Maintain professional staff levels and recruit as necessary.
  • Research and respond to RFPs or business opportunities in pathology.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and compliance policies, including HIPAA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Cytotechnology, Medical Technology, or related field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Minimum three years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Familiarity with Histology, Cytology, Gross Pathology, and Transcription principles and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Current certification as a Medical Technologist, Histotechnologist, Cytotechnologist, or Pathologist Assistant preferred.
  • Valid State of Hawaii license as a Medical Technologist, Cytotechnologist, or Histotechnologist preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting with supervisory experience.
