About the position

The Operations Manager will lead all aspects of a multi-product operation at the Life Sciences Manufacturing Facility in Gaithersburg, MD. This role is crucial in ensuring that customer expectations are exceeded by driving the plant to its full potential, delivering high-quality products at market-leading levels. The Operations Manager will identify and implement continuous improvement activities that enhance employee performance, manufacturing efficiency, equipment uptime, product quality, and operating costs. This position involves managing cross-functional projects that enhance efficiency, add capacity, support future growth, and prioritize capital expenditure (CAPEX) investments. In this role, the Operations Manager will lead, develop, and coach all manufacturing employees, including salaried production supervisors, process engineers, and hourly manufacturing technicians. The focus will be on ensuring the completion of all standard work, projects, and deliverables safely, efficiently, and on schedule. The Operations Manager will manage and support front-line supervisors of the Cell Therapy and Final Fill Plans, directing plant activities such as personnel engagement, safety performance, production control, and cost management. The Operations Manager will actively drive Operational Excellence and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) within departments, establishing objectives based on the WCM management approach. This includes providing leadership for quality standards, production efficiency, training needs, continuous improvement, cost reductions, and safety standards. The role also involves managing cross-functional projects to position the facility for future growth and technological improvements, ensuring alignment with corporate initiatives and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of a multi-product operation at the Life Sciences Manufacturing Facility.
  • Ensure customer expectations are exceeded by delivering high-quality products.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement activities to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Manage cross-functional projects to enhance efficiency and support future growth.
  • Lead, develop, and coach manufacturing employees, including supervisors and technicians.
  • Direct plant activities such as personnel engagement, safety performance, and production control.
  • Promote a safe working environment and comply with safety regulations.
  • Oversee production environment in accordance with GMP and QMS requirements.
  • Train employees on control systems to eliminate product discrepancies.
  • Interface with managers/customers to ensure quality commitments are met.
  • Prepare and operate within the operating budget.
  • Assure compliance with all regulatory requirements (FDA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Actively drive Operational Excellence and WCM within departments.
  • Set goals and objectives and assess performance of team members.
  • Manage cross-functional projects to support capacity growth and technological improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality, Operations, Business or related field; Required.
  • Master's Degree in Business or related field; Preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Manufacturing Operations; Required.
  • Leadership experience with direct and indirect management of teams; Required.
  • Continuous improvement experience; Required.
  • Experience working within a regulated industry; Required.
