About the position

The North Operations Manager at RiverBend Materials is responsible for leading and overseeing production and maintenance operations across multiple sites, including sand & gravel pits, quarries, and ready-mix plants. This role emphasizes safety, efficiency, and profitability while fostering a culture of trust and collaboration. The manager will guide department managers and support personnel management, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, and driving operational performance to meet company goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee production and maintenance operations for 4 sand & gravel pits, 3 quarries, and 6 ready-mix plants.
  • Drive engagement and support for all safety and environmental compliance programs.
  • Provide guidance and management to department managers, superintendents, and forepersons.
  • Promote a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Responsible for daily operations including safe production, quality, customer focus, and maintaining the integrity of safety and environmental systems.
  • Ensure all required permitting is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company goals.
  • Generate and manage the operating budget for the fiscal year under the direction of the General Manager.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of all product resources.
  • Build effective teams and develop direct reports for future opportunities.
  • Ensure that all crews have the tools and training to operate safely at all times.
  • Monitor/control production through direction of the site managers to ensure safe production, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Provide advice and support to team during the job bidding process through job completion.
  • Work with General Manager to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
  • Provide leadership and direction in sales and marketing efforts to maximize product sales and profitability.
  • Communicate professionally, timely, clearly, and concisely to all levels of employees.
  • Regularly attend and contribute positively to various business and management meetings.
  • Seek innovative business ideas to help sustain and grow the business.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a construction or building materials environment AND 3 - 5 years of business, plant, or operations management experience (can be concurrent).
  • OR 8 - 10 years of business, plant, or operations management experience.
  • 3 - 5 years supervisory experience and leadership skills with the ability to guide, support, and motivate a diverse team.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work safely and cost-effectively, and an understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Exceptional customer service skills for both internal and external customers.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying data and concepts to various audiences.
  • Basic PC & Microsoft 365 knowledge with the ability to learn different software applications.
  • Willingness to travel to various site locations and to work extended hours, nights, and weekends when necessary.
  • A valid driver's license and current authorization to work in the United States.

  • Experience in the aggregate or asphalt industry.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance standards.
  • Proven track record of improving operational efficiency.
