About the position

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of railroad operations, focusing on improving profitability through safety, efficiency, and effective processes. This role involves managing safety compliance, service performance, and financial performance while leading a team to meet strategic business goals. The Operations Manager will also develop new business opportunities and maintain customer relationships, ensuring adherence to company policies and core values.

Responsibilities

• Manage safety, service performance, operating practices, and financial performance of railroad operations.
• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental laws and company policies.
• Lead execution of railroad operations to meet or exceed budget and financial goals.
• Direct planning and budget development to support strategic business goals.
• Develop new business opportunities and maintain excellent customer service.
• Select, train, manage, and coach employees.
• Implement company policies and promote core values within the organization.
• Maintain high performance standards and positive employee relations.
• Build and maintain relationships with customers and interchange partners.
• Evaluate railroad asset requirements and capital improvement projects.
• Develop and review operating procedures for all railroad functions.

Requirements

• High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
• 5 to 8 years of work experience in the railroad industry with supervisory duties.
• Knowledge of FRA regulations required.
• Experience in railroad budget management required.
• Current or prior railroad Conductor certification required; Railroad Engineer Certification preferred.
• Strong management and customer relations skills required.
• Ability to work safely to prevent on-the-job accidents and injuries.
• Valid Driver's License.

• Experience with safety operating rules examination.
• Background in railroad operations management.
