About the position

The Operations Manager for Subsurface Utilities Engineering (SUE) at McCarthy Building Co. is responsible for overseeing all phases of SUE projects, ensuring they are executed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role involves managing subcontractors, coordinating deliverables, and maintaining the financial health of the national business. The successful candidate will also engage in business development to sell SUE services and establish relationships with potential clients.

Responsibilities

• Ensure SUE projects are executed safely, on schedule, on budget, and with the highest standard of care.
• Ensure the SUE Operations team is set up for success on every project.
• Logistical planning and operational management of SUE projects.
• Maintain daily contact and provide oversight to the SUE Operations Team.
• Manage all private and public utility record information to ensure accessibility for field teams.
• Set up subcontracts and purchase orders as needed to support projects.
• Responsible for final deliverable packaging, reporting, and delivery to the client.
• Proactively follow up with project teams and clients to ensure deliverables are understood and meet expectations.
• Develop a budget in support of project proposals.
• Track labor, material, and subcontractor costs throughout the project lifecycle, seeking opportunities for fee enhancement.
• Ensure projects and owners are invoiced appropriately and in a timely manner.
• Work alongside the National Business Development Manager to establish potential customer relationships.
• Research and analyze target market sectors to identify potential partners and clients.

Requirements

• 5-10 years of experience managing Subsurface Utility projects.
• Safety-oriented background in Civil Engineering (preferred).
• Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
• Understanding of design and construction of subsurface utility infrastructure.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with strict attention to detail.
• Self-motivated with effective time management skills.
• Comfortable speaking in front of large groups.
