About the position

The Operations Manager at Penske Logistics is responsible for leading teams in a dynamic operational environment to consistently exceed established goals while ensuring customer satisfaction. This role involves developing forward-looking plans, managing financial resources effectively, and fostering a culture of safety. The Operations Manager supervises drivers and collaborates with various departments to achieve operational excellence and meet financial targets.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and sustain training and competency for all supervisors and associates, ensuring alignment with customer business objectives.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, and retain quality associates.
  • Maintain effective two-way communication to inform, motivate, and recognize excellence among team members.
  • Build strong relationships with associates, customers, and supporting departments.
  • Meet or exceed all customer key performance metrics and objectives.
  • Interact daily with local customers to understand their needs.
  • Lead the team in identifying operational improvements such as route optimization and carrier selection.
  • Collaborate with other Penske sites to share best practices and leverage resources.
  • Develop and execute the annual financial and operating plan.
  • Lead operations with integrity to meet or exceed business plan targets.
  • Identify issues with operating metrics and P&L, making timely adjustments as needed.
  • Ensure timely and accurate customer billings and associate payroll, validating payables and intercompany charges.
  • Lead a culture of safety through personal example and continuous improvement plans.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and company policies regarding safety.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and challenge the status quo.
  • Track and record value delivered to customers and seize profitable business opportunities.
  • Improve fleet/equipment utilization, maintenance availability, and fuel efficiency.

Requirements

  • 4 - 6 years of related functional experience.
  • 3+ years of managerial or supervisory experience with DOT regulated positions required.
  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Supply Chain Management preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to connect and build rapport with associates and external customers at all levels.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with follow-up and follow-through capabilities.
  • Ability to manage through problems and make independent decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute annual financial operating plans.
  • Ability to drive process improvement and lead change.
  • Ownership and responsibility for running operations with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including presentation abilities.
