About the position

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the management of operational, maintenance, and improvement activities across six water systems in Massachusetts, serving approximately 11,500 customers. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality water while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations. The manager will supervise a team, act as the Primary Operator for certain systems, and collaborate with various departments to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the operation and maintenance of six water systems in Millbury, Oxford, Dover, and Plymouth, MA.
  • Act as the Primary Operator for treatment and distribution systems, overseeing five treatment facilities and distribution system maintenance.
  • Supervise six direct reports, fostering a positive work environment and ensuring employee development.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state drinking water regulations, including regulatory reporting to MassDEP.
  • Manage Field Service, Meter Reading, and Cross Connection Control functions for the Massachusetts operation.
  • Prepare operating and maintenance budgets and perform monthly expense variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Planning Departments on capital projects and manage vendor relationships.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service and Corporate Communications for stakeholder communications and community engagement.
  • Ensure staff are trained in emergency response procedures and maintain safety practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in operations and/or engineering.
  • Must hold Massachusetts Drinking Water Operator Licenses (Full) of at least Class T2 and D2, or equivalent licenses from another state with the ability to obtain Massachusetts licenses within 6 months.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MassDEP staff is desirable.
  • Familiarity with technology applications such as SAP, GIS, WIMS, LIMS, and SCADA systems.
