About the position

The Operations Manager at Johns Manville is responsible for providing strategic direction for the production facility in Waterville, OH, overseeing a workforce of 197 union hourly employees and a total of 225 employees. This role involves leading and developing plant employees, managing production efforts, ensuring safety and quality standards, and maintaining positive employee relations. The Operations Manager will also be involved in budget management, cost reduction strategies, and compliance with environmental standards, while acting as a representative of the company in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop plant employees to ensure necessary capabilities and culture are in place.
  • Establish and manage activities to meet and exceed short and long-term plant goals in conjunction with senior management.
  • Develop a plant safety culture with a focus on employee-led safety programs.
  • Control plant costs by developing, managing, and controlling the budgetary process.
  • Manage production efforts to meet service quality and cost goals.
  • Lead major change initiatives in a dynamic environment.
  • Implement operations improvement projects and programs.
  • Establish and manage cost reduction strategies and activities.
  • Ensure all products shipped meet JM and UL FM specification requirements.
  • Maintain and improve positive employee relations, including union-free status.
  • Manage plant technology innovations and project strategy in collaboration with product management and technology leaders.
  • Maintain service levels to customers through production inventory planning and coordination with SIOP resources.
  • Ensure environmental compliance through ISO 14001 management systems.
  • Act as JM representative to the community and enhance the company's image.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Engineering degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of increasing leadership responsibility in a 24/7 continuous operations manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and make timely decisions.
  • Previous experience in managing employee safety.
  • Understanding of financial systems and controls, including budget analysis and cost data interpretation.
  • Solid project planning and management skills using standard project management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement recommendations and drive change initiatives.
  • Proven collaborative and participative management skills.
