About the position

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of assigned portfolio sites within a fast-growing national janitorial and maintenance company. This role focuses on ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer satisfaction while managing a team of janitorial staff. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work independently, and possess strong leadership skills to drive team performance and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily activities of assigned portfolio sites, ensuring appropriate cleaning of all areas.
  • Ensure all locations are fully staffed through hiring and onboarding.
  • Plan, organize, and direct team members to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate and perform special project work for assigned buildings.
  • Communicate with the home office to enhance operations and employee experience.
  • Supervise janitorial and facility staff, holding them accountable for performance and attendance.
  • Report weekly to the Director on operational status.
  • Maintain and order cleaning supplies and inventory for all facilities.
  • Process payroll for staff in accordance with company policies.
  • Ensure direct reports clock in and out correctly and approve timesheets.
  • Schedule and train new janitorial staff members.
  • Manage staff performance and discipline, coordinating with HR as needed.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures, promoting the Company Handbook/Code of Conduct.
  • Monitor budget adherence for supplies and overtime by reviewing weekly.
  • Conduct building inspections and prepare reports for clients.
  • Communicate daily with clients and meet with them regularly as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate new startups, including recruiting and training new employees.
  • Attend monthly manager training courses to enhance leadership skills.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all equipment.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years' experience in the janitorial industry.
  • Prior floor experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel throughout the portfolio; this is not a remote position.
  • Experience managing a janitorial team of 15+ employees.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to anticipate customer needs and multitask effectively.
  • Experience with Paylocity and other relevant technology.
  • Ability to maintain a budget and sell additional services to clients.
  • Strong decision-making skills and independent judgment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Job reliability, diligence, and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with general office PC applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
