About the position

The Operations Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of terminal employees to ensure cost-effective, timely, and quality service to customers. This role involves managing operations, resolving customer complaints, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety regulations. The Operations Manager also plays a key role in financial analysis and operational strategy to enhance profitability and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate activities of terminal employees to provide quality service to customers.
  • Investigate customer complaints and resolve issues effectively.
  • Interview, select, train, and assign new personnel as needed.
  • Enforce compliance with company policies, safety rules, and governmental regulations.
  • Review and analyze financial and operations reports to identify areas for improvement.
  • Plan, organize, and control daily shipping, receiving, and maintenance operations.
  • Establish measurable quality goals and track their success or failure.
  • Manage recruitment, training, and ongoing management of operational personnel.
  • Support daily and weekly scheduling and monitor operational costs.
  • Develop and implement training programs for new and current employees.
  • Ensure customer requirements are met and work conforms to management standards.
  • Assist in operational strategy and planning for short and long-term goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Project a professional image in all company facilities and customer interactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management or related field, or 4+ years of equivalent experience in the Transportation/Distribution industry.
  • Working knowledge of truckload transportation operations.
  • Ability to supervise and discipline personnel with documented record keeping.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to interact with diverse personalities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • General understanding of mechanical operations and maintenance of revenue equipment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
  • Fundamental computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and ability to learn necessary software systems.
  • Proven track record in meeting high quality standards.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Solid understanding of warehouse and transportation terminal work practices.
  • Strong sense of urgency and knowledge of safety and regulatory standards (ISO, OSHA, DOT).
