About the position

The Operations Manager at Godmothers is responsible for ensuring the seamless execution of daily business activities in a new local bookstore that serves as a community gathering place. This role requires strong leadership skills, scheduling experience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The Operations Manager will collaborate with owners and department heads to oversee operational processes, manage staff, and contribute to strategic planning and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures for efficient and profitable retail operations.
  • Oversee profit loss management to ensure financial health and sustainability of the organization.
  • Work directly with the Accounting team to support monthly Profit and Loss statements.
  • Financial duties to include invoice review and approval, purchase approval, accounting support, accounts payable, and bill payment.
  • Lead, motivate, and empower a diverse team, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and supervise staff.
  • Oversee scheduling including tracking time off requests and schedule preferences.
  • Oversee HR operations, ensuring accurate payroll, benefits administration, and compliance with employment laws.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to streamline operations and enhance productivity.
  • Analyze operational performance metrics to identify trends, challenges, and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies while maintaining high standards of quality.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant management, retail, human resources, and accounting experience.
  • Proven experience in an operations management role or similar capacity.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Gusto, Expensify, and Quickbooks is ideal.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in supervising teams effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication, mediation, de-escalation, and problem-solving skills are required.
