About the position

The Operations Manager at Garbage to Garden is responsible for leading and overseeing the daily operations of the Massachusetts-based staff, ensuring operational efficiency, fleet readiness, and facility organization. This role involves monitoring field operations, managing staff performance, and addressing customer service issues, all while upholding the company's core values of conservation, adaptability, service, and respect.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all Field Operator/Driver progress and ensure all collection routes are completed thoroughly and efficiently.
  • Delegate special tasks that arise and determine when each Field Operator's day is finished.
  • Step in as necessary to complete routes or assist with problems that arise.
  • Ensure all staff complete daily inspections of their equipment.
  • Resolve customer complaints and other issues escalated from the customer service department.
  • Respond immediately to on-the-road emergencies, such as breakdowns and accidents, ensuring safe resolution.
  • Hold regular team meetings and set team schedules, ensuring adequate coverage of shifts.
  • Assign collection routes and maintain route order and efficiency.
  • Maintain discipline of staff in accordance with company policy.
  • Evaluate staff performance by preparing and holding performance reviews and check-ins.
  • Assist with hiring and orientation of new team members.
  • Train all new team members in accordance with Garbage to Garden training standards.
  • Maintain the facility in a clean and orderly state, ensuring everything is in its appropriate place.
  • Complete weekly inventory of all necessary supplies and equipment and procure regular supplies weekly.
  • Track supply usage with weekly/monthly cost and schedule larger resupply trips from Maine headquarters.
  • Track all issues reported by Field Operators and keep accurate maintenance records.
  • Plan preventative and unscheduled maintenance with local shops to ensure timely repairs.

Requirements

  • 5 years of relevant experience in waste management, transportation, or logistics.
  • 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Valid Massachusetts license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Experience with Google Suite and other related platforms.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and support team members.
  • Ability to problem solve using sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to build teams around a common goal of customer service.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently and remain calm under pressure.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through of tasks.
  • Ability to remain flexible in work assignments/scheduled hours.
  • Ability to identify and diagnose vehicle issues at an intermediate level.
  • Working knowledge of automotive issues including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic.
