About the position

Trans 99 Logistics is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day transportation operations of its U.S. division. This role is pivotal as the first hire in the Detroit division, allowing the candidate to shape the future of the organization. The Operations Manager will report directly to the President of U.S. Operations and will be responsible for overseeing transportation operations, managing staff, and optimizing efficiency as the company expands its U.S. presence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily transportation operations, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of freight across routes.
  • Supervise and develop drivers, dispatchers, and operations staff to maximize performance and productivity.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery rates, driver retention, and fleet utilization.
  • Coordinate route planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet client needs and optimize efficiency.
  • Oversee fleet management activities, including vehicle maintenance, inspections, and compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, clients, and third-party partners to ensure smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to identify process improvements and streamline operations as the company grows.
  • Support other departments, including safety and payroll functions, as the team expands.
  • Utilize data and technology, including transportation management systems (TMS) and fleet management tools, to optimize operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5 years of experience in transportation operations management, preferably within the trucking industry.
  • Strong knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations.
  • Proven experience managing transportation teams, including dispatchers and drivers.
  • Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and fleet management technologies such as Samsara.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
