About The Position

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Operations Department at Island Transit. This role includes ensuring the safe operation of agency vehicles, managing personnel, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance transit services. The Operations Manager also participates in budget management, collective bargaining negotiations, and represents the agency in community and governmental meetings. This position is classified as safety-sensitive and requires compliance with drug and alcohol testing regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business/Public Administration, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in transit management and operations, including three (3) years supervisory experience with paratransit, fixed route, and on-demand services preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of public transportation operations, transit scheduling, and administrative practices.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, lead, and manage Operations employees.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and policies regarding worker health and safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in writing specifications for equipment purchases.
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak effectively in front of groups of people.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safe operations of all Agency vehicles by Operations personnel.
  • Monitor and work closely with the Planning and Outreach Manager on Agency Operations services.
  • Participate in negotiations and management of collective bargaining agreements with Operations personnel.
  • Represent the Agency in meetings with community stakeholders and governmental agencies.
  • Direct, organize, coordinate, and evaluate fixed route and specialized transportation operations.
  • Recommend, monitor, and control the department budget.
  • Supervise, evaluate, counsel, and discipline all Operations Department employees.
  • Prepare performance, operational, and service reports.
  • Maintain effective relationships with civic and professional organizations.
