About the position

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing janitorial operations at a designated site, ensuring customer satisfaction, productivity, and adherence to schedules and economic goals. This hands-on leadership role requires active engagement with day-to-day operations, motivating staff, and addressing challenges faced by the team. The position involves managing both day and night staff, conducting regular site visits, and maintaining operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily activities of assigned site to maximize scheduling and resource utilization.
  • Monitor daily work hours to remain within budgetary guidelines.
  • Teach subordinates how to safely operate and maintain cleaning machinery and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain communication with Managers, Supervisors, and Employees.
  • Conduct customer site inspections and submit change orders as needed.
  • Provide quotes and supply orders as necessary.
  • Manage job starts and employee onboarding/offboarding processes.
  • Submit employee change orders in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a cooperative working climate to promote employee morale and productivity.
  • Keep Portfolio Leader informed of significant issues and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Perform supervisory functions to manage personnel effectively.
  • Provide GPS goals to newly hired Supervisors and exempt staff within 30 days.
  • Conduct mid-year and year-end reviews for staff within required timeframes.
  • Collaborate with the Training & Development Team to identify development opportunities for staff.
  • Communicate performance expectations and standards to personnel assigned.
  • Recommend transfers, promotions, and dismissals as needed.
  • Ensure proper training of personnel and develop individuals for future advancement.
  • Step in for absent staff to maintain uninterrupted service.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of working experience in janitorial or facilities management, with at least 5 years in a management role preferred.
  • Proven track record of managing a team and ensuring operational efficiency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • High integrity and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Proficiency in using cleaning equipment and teaching others its safe operation preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond to emergencies promptly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching or training staff in operational procedures.
  • Familiarity with reporting and ticketing systems.
