About the position

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily laboratory operations in a commercial laboratory environment that operates 24/7. This role involves managing microbiological and chemical testing processes, ensuring quality control, and maintaining adherence to operational standards. The Operations Manager will work closely with the Laboratory Manager to enhance profitability, productivity, and efficiency while fostering a culture of teamwork and high-quality service.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Laboratory Manager to hire, train, engage, empower, schedule labor and workflow, coach, counsel, review performance and develop all laboratory team members.
  • Achieve a high level of proficiency in all positions within the laboratory.
  • Participate in generating and interpreting operations budgets and various operational reports.
  • Assist with proficiency, technical/scientific standards, employee training, and quality control processes.
  • Ensure accurate results through management of data traceability in LIMS system and adherence to approved laboratory techniques.
  • Work with Technical Manager to ensure compliance with FSNS Quality Management systems and ISO 17025 requirements.
  • Address and resolve malfunctioning equipment or non-compliance of supplies and reagents.
  • Be proficient in method validation, competitors' methods, and industry regulations.
  • Review and audit laboratory staff and processes for compliance with methods and procedures.
  • Provide customer service, managing sample and testing flow to meet specifications and deadlines.
  • Isolate needs for retests of client samples based on quality control concerns.
  • Maintain technical competence by reading scientific journals and attending workshops.
  • Assist with managing priorities and schedules to achieve individual and team goals.
  • Responsible for safety and completion of required training.
  • Authorized for method verification.

Requirements

  • 5+ years direct experience in commercial microbiological laboratory testing.
  • 3+ years direct supervision experience.
  • Understanding of GMPs, GLPs, and laboratory quality assurance principles.
  • Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 preferred.
  • Experience with computerized laboratory information management systems (LIMS) preferred.
  • Preferred BS/MS Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology, or related field.

Nice-to-haves
