About the position

The Operations Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the daily operations of machining, maintenance, and secondary areas within the company. This role focuses on overseeing production, maximizing resources to achieve customer satisfaction, productivity, and employee growth while maintaining high-quality standards and ensuring on-time delivery. The Operations Manager will drive process improvements, manage production schedules, and provide leadership to employees, fostering a world-class manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate day-to-day operations of machining, maintenance, and secondary areas.
  • Oversee production to meet daily, weekly, and monthly targets.
  • Maintain high-quality standards and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Drive process improvements, particularly in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Analyze data to identify necessary technical skills and resources for production.
  • Provide leadership through clear communication, coaching, and development.
  • Plan and implement cross-training initiatives and competency evaluations.
  • Analyze short- and long-term supply and demand requirements in partnership with production planning and supply chain teams.
  • Manage machinery, tooling, and human resource needs to meet expectations.
  • Oversee and implement activities that enhance processes and reduce lead times.
  • Train employees on machine and material use, ensuring compliance with policies and safe operating procedures.
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) regularly by shift and cell.
  • Manage employee accountability, development, appraisals, attendance, and disciplinary issues.
  • Investigate personnel matters in collaboration with HR.
  • Provide technical expertise and set high standards for expected behaviors.
  • Rapidly address production issues and clarify expectations for sustainable solutions.
  • Schedule, direct, and coordinate personnel workload to meet production goals.
  • Analyze operations and performance data to identify potential cost reductions and improvements.
  • Manage product movement for operational efficiency and ensure equipment is maintained according to specifications.
  • Recommend investments in equipment, infrastructure, and talent.
  • Identify automation and process innovation opportunities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of operations management experience in a CNC machine shop preferred.
  • Advanced supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully executing within a manufacturing environment, preferably in an FDA, ISO regulated setting.
  • Ability to effectively lead a manufacturing production floor and drive results.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Exposure to ISO 13485 medical device and FDA standards is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of ERP systems.
  • Ability to interface effectively with technical personnel on product and process issues.
  • Understanding and ability to analyze customer blueprints and specifications.
  • Proven track record of developing and deploying creative solutions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Windows, MS Office products (especially Excel), and PDF generation.
  • Experience supervising and disciplining employees, assessing skill sets, and identifying training needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 medical device and FDA standards.
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
