About the position

The Operations & Management Consultant I position at the Florida Department of Health in Hardee County is a key role focused on supporting public health initiatives, particularly in tobacco prevention and control. The incumbent will supervise the Tobacco Program, manage grants, and coordinate community health programs while ensuring adherence to public health accreditation standards. This position emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and excellence in promoting health education and community wellness.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Tobacco Program and manage the Tobacco Grant, including SWAT, Policy Management, and Tobacco Free Partnership.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of public health promotion and education programs.
  • Advocate for health promotion through participation in workshops, planning boards, and advisory councils.
  • Evaluate the performance of Community Health Program staff and distribute workload effectively.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual plans and reports for program activities.
  • Develop and monitor the annual budget in alignment with proposed budgets.
  • Manage Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) requirements and maintain necessary documentation.
  • Serve as the liaison between the county health department and Accreditation Division.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and manage staff duties, including hiring and disciplinary actions.
  • Serve as ESF-8 desk staff and maintain appropriate certifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • Knowledge of tobacco prevention and control
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data for operational improvements
  • Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills
  • Skilled in programmatic budgeting and public speaking
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement health programs
  • Ability to work with youth and young adults
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual skills (Spanish, Creole, or other languages)
  • Experience in public health education and promotion
  • Familiarity with community health initiatives and partnerships.
