About the position

The Operations Planning Manager will play a crucial role in enhancing Illinois' disaster preparedness and response initiatives. This position involves leading the development and implementation of comprehensive operational emergency response plans, including specialized strategies like the Illinois Earthquake Response Plan. The manager will guide stakeholders across federal, state, and local levels in crafting effective Disaster Plans and Standard Operating Procedures, making a significant impact on community safety and emergency management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive operational emergency response plans and planning products.
  • Work closely with federal, state, and local programmatic stakeholders to develop comprehensive Disaster Plans and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Serve as the Coordinator for Emergency Support Function ESF 6, coordinating agencies, partners, and support organizations.
  • Build and maintain planning products to enhance the Mass Care capability of the state of Illinois.
  • Act as a designated contact for the Access and Functional Needs Committee.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with coursework in business or public administration.
  • Two (2) years of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in the development and evaluation of exercises for public safety and emergency management.
  • Completion of coursework in emergency planning through a state emergency management agency and/or FEMA.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in the development of response plans for public safety and emergency management.
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in emergency management exercising program management.
  • Two (2) years of experience in an emergency management position.
  • Two (2) years of experience in developing emergency management response plans.
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) Certification from IAEM.
