About the position

The Operations Planning Specialist (Instructor) serves as an operational air planner responsible for planning, scenario development, and execution of joint operational level warfare exercises. This role supports Major Command (MAJCOM) and Joint level training programs designed to train the Joint Force, Coalition Partners, and various Air Forces. The specialist applies military aviation operations experience to analyze and develop solutions for operational effectiveness and efficiency, while also documenting planning decisions to meet training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an operational air planner for joint operational level warfare exercises.
  • Analyze, develop, coordinate, and evaluate issues related to MAJCOM programs.
  • Document planning and programming decisions to meet Joint, Air Force, and MAJCOM training requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate strategic planning to improve organizational direction using strategic planning tools.
  • Record training audience progress and performance.
  • Maintain professional and technical expertise.

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or higher.
  • In-depth knowledge of military aviation operations and their application to major military operations.
  • Knowledge of Joint, Air Force, command, and organizational planning processes.
  • Skill in planning and executing various Air Force mission specialties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in role-playing mission specialties during exercises.
  • Familiarity with strategic planning tools and techniques.
