About the position

The Operations Research Analyst position at the Department of Defense involves conducting complex studies related to military research and evaluation of fire support systems. The role focuses on applying mathematical and statistical techniques to assess capabilities and identify gaps in the army's operational effectiveness. The analyst will be responsible for maintaining the Forge database and conducting capability needs assessments to propose functional solutions for identified gaps.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex studies covering military research and evaluation of fire support systems.
  • Apply mathematical and statistical techniques in evaluating fire support capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain all Fires gaps in capabilities in the Forge database.
  • Conduct Capability Needs Assessments and Functional Solution Analysis using analytical tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in operations research or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, or related subjects, including 3 hours in calculus.
  • One year of specialized experience in designing and conducting analytical studies to support Defense Acquisition programs.
  • Experience in data mining large raw data sets and utilizing statistical software tools such as MS Excel with statistics add-ons.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience communicating technical data to senior officials.
  • Familiarity with military operations and fire support systems.
