About the position

The Operations Research Analyst, Statistician, or Data Scientist at MITRE will engage in advanced analytical and mathematical techniques to address complex interdisciplinary problems within the public sector. This role involves applying operations research, statistics, and data analytics to enhance decision-making processes and operational effectiveness for various government sponsors. The position emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and the application of innovative solutions to real-world challenges in fields such as defense, healthcare, and cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced analytical and mathematical techniques to make difficult policy and acquisition decisions.
  • Maximize operational effectiveness and efficiency to achieve high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner for all sponsor audiences, regardless of technical expertise.
  • Work independently and/or collaborate with a team of technical staff.
  • Mentor junior staff and guide them in their professional development.
  • Shape and lead projects in collaboration with MITRE staff and sponsors.

Requirements

  • Degree in Operations Research, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent knowledge and skills in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience.
  • Passion for applying operations research, statistics, and data analytics to real-world problems.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn new techniques and tools.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in the field of operations research.
  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, methods, and tools for conducting operations research, statistical analysis, or data analytic studies.
  • Experience in mathematical modeling, optimization, statistics, probability modeling, and simulation.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., RStudio, MATLAB, Python, Java).
  • Experience with at least one simulation, optimization, or business intelligence platform (e.g., Gurobi, CPLEX, Stella, Simio, Arena, AnyLogic, SimPy, RSimmer, SAS, Tableau).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active security clearance preferred.
  • Experience working with or for agencies and/or departments of the US Government (e.g., FAA, DoD, DoE, DHS, Treasury, IRS).
