About the position

The Operations Research Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting AVS initiatives by utilizing advanced computational and data manipulation methods to conduct complex research and analytical assignments. This position involves applying scientific methods to design and develop mathematical and statistical analyses that address management problems and evaluate alternative solutions. The analyst collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand data needs, performs scientific research using statistical techniques, and provides insights to inform decision-making within the aviation safety sector.

Responsibilities

  • Use computational and data manipulation methods to perform complex research and analytical assignments.
  • Apply advanced technical knowledge of scientific methods to design and develop mathematical and statistical analyses.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and provide analytical support.
  • Perform scientific research using statistical methods such as modeling, regression analysis, and decision analysis.
  • Utilize data visualization tools to present data and results to management.
  • Assist in coordinating major program development activities related to aviation safety.
  • Analyze information and develop solutions using statistical analysis, simulations, and modeling.
  • Gather aviation safety data and optimize queries for efficient data retrieval.
  • Identify trends, interpret data, and generate insights using analytical tools and models.
  • Maintain and update relational databases to ensure data integrity and availability.

Requirements

  • Degree in operations research or at least 24 semester hours in operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, or related fields with substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H, FG/GS-10-12, applying statistical research methods in support of an organization's mission.
  • Experience accessing and updating databases to ensure data integrity and availability.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with statistical software for developing mathematical models and simulation models.
  • Familiarity with aviation safety data and related analytical tools.
