About the position

The Operations Research Analyst at MITRE Corporation will engage in advanced analytical and mathematical techniques to support decision-making processes in various sectors, including defense and public services. This role involves applying operations research, statistics, and data analytics to complex interdisciplinary problems, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with technical teams to deliver actionable insights to sponsors. Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced analytical and mathematical techniques to make difficult policy and acquisition decisions.
  • Maximize operational effectiveness and efficiency to achieve high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner for all sponsor audiences, regardless of technical expertise.
  • Work independently and/or collaborate with a team of technical staff.
  • Mentor junior staff and guide them in their professional development.
  • Shape and lead projects in collaboration with MITRE staff and sponsors.

Requirements

  • Degree in Operations Research, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent knowledge and skills in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience.
  • Passion for applying operations research, statistics, and data analytics to real-world problems.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn new techniques and tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, concepts, methods, and tools for conducting operations research and statistical analysis.
  • Experience in mathematical modeling, optimization, statistics, probability modeling, and simulation.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., RStudio, MATLAB, Python, Java).
  • Experience with at least one simulation, optimization, or business intelligence platform (e.g., Gurobi, CPLEX, SAS, Tableau).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active security clearance preferred.
  • Experience working with or for US Government agencies (e.g., FAA, DoD, DoE, DHS, Treasury, IRS).
