About the position

The Operations Research Analyst position at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy involves providing technical assistance to program managers and coordinators. The role focuses on collecting and managing data to support analytical studies, analyzing information to find solutions, and developing data visualizations to aid in decision-making. The analyst will serve as a consultant and technical expert to senior specialists within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and manage data to support analytical and research studies for substantive program initiatives.
  • Analyze information using appropriate methods or analytical techniques to find solutions to problems and support data-driven decisions.
  • Oversee the development of data visualizations including statistical charts and graphs to clearly articulate trends or highlight information that leads to data-driven decision-making.
  • Serve as a consultant and CGA level technical expert to senior subject matter specialists.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Must be registered or exempt from the Selective Service.
  • Education: Competence in scientific inquiry and analysis methods, with knowledge in applied mathematics.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector, including statistical evaluation and analysis techniques.
  • Experience in clearly communicating results via oral, written, and graphic means to higher-level decision makers.
  • Assisting in developing materials to inform senior-level decision makers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Courses in theory of probability and statistics are highly desirable.
