About the position

The Operations Research Analyst position within the Department of Defense involves a critical role in developing and defending assessment reports for the Office of the Army Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations and Plans). The analyst will serve as a liaison among team members, facilitating the exchange of techniques, technical information, and ideas while collaborating on various projects. A key aspect of this role is the ability to communicate findings effectively, utilizing clear and concise written and graphic representations tailored for both internal and external audiences associated with the Army. In this position, the analyst will be responsible for developing linear or multivariate programming models aimed at optimizing development projections. This includes ensuring that appropriate statistical tests are performed accurately on data, as well as developing mathematical, statistical, and automated system models for data identification and analysis. The role also requires the analyst to identify and evaluate cost and budgetary factors impacting various programs, weighing these cost relationships when developing models and alternative solutions. Furthermore, the analyst will analyze and evaluate advanced proposals to meet program and mission objectives, contributing to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of operations within the Army.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and defend assessment reports internally to the Office of the Army Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations and Plans).
  • Serve as a representative in liaison with other team members for exchanging techniques, technical information/ideas, and collaborating on projects.
  • Communicate findings via clear and concise written and graphic representations appropriate for audiences internal and external to the Army.
  • Develop linear or multivariate programming models to optimize development projections.
  • Ensure appropriate statistical tests are performed accurately on data.
  • Develop mathematical, statistical, and other automated system models for identification and analysis of data.
  • Identify and evaluate cost and budgetary factors that impact various programs and weigh cost relationships when developing models and alternative solutions.
  • Analyze and evaluate advanced proposals to satisfy program and mission objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in operations research or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, or science, including at least 3 semester hours in calculus.
  • One year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level, which includes utilizing automated system models for data identification and analysis, designing research methods for broad program operations, and identifying pertinent information through data collection and analysis procedures.
