About the position

The Operations/Safety Manager at Goodwills Green Works, Inc. is responsible for overseeing daily operations and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. This role involves supervising personnel, evaluating work operations, and enhancing employee competencies through training programs. The manager will also coordinate departmental activities, assist in budget development, and maintain communication with various stakeholders to ensure efficient operations and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews daily requirements for the department to plan work and personnel assignments for the shift.
  • Supervises and directs personnel on shifts in performing operations according to sound operating principles, customer's requirements and the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Supervises and directs the Coordinator of Health and Safety and Training in performing job duties.
  • Researches and evaluates work operations, production methods and equipment.
  • Analyzes information and determines potential hazards and violations of OSHA, MIOSHA and/or other industry standards.
  • Identifies hazards that have an impact on worker health and safety, analyzes safety programs and evaluates whether adequate protections are provided to employees.
  • Adheres to and promotes organization safety policies and practices.
  • Prepares written reports of assessment findings, issues notices of potential hazard alerts, and provides recommendations to eliminate or mitigate health and safety hazards and concerns.
  • Enhances the competencies of individual employees by designing and conducting training programs that boost employee workplace performance.
  • Assists with the development of department budget.
  • Coordinates activities of department with related activities of other departments to ensure efficiency and economy.
  • Gives work directions, resolves problems, prepares schedules, and sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work.
  • Evaluates current procedures and practices for accomplishing department objectives to develop and implement improved procedures and practices.
  • Directs personnel in the receipt of materials and supplies against quantities ordered and quality of specifications.
  • Works with the Plant Manager to ensure proper coverage for the department.
  • Assists with maintaining quality control for all department operations.
  • Maintains open and efficient methods of communication with the department, the organization, and the consumer.
  • Responsible for assisting Operations with Internal audits of its quality system(s) as an objective observer.
  • Prepares monthly required reports on the safety and training operations of the department to the Plant Manager.
  • Applies the organization's employee relation policies in all dealings with employees.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of ethical conduct as required in the organization's employee manual.
  • Performs all duties to the standard established by the organization, its funding sources, regulatory bodies or other customers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical and professional work experience accepted.
  • Five years of management experience in an industrial setting.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Must be organized.
  • Knowledgeable of manufacturing operations including process flow, inventory concepts, productivity, quality, and scheduling.
  • Ability to schedule, train, supervise, and inspect the activities and output of employees including evaluations and recommendations.
  • Ability to gather statistics for reports.
  • Ability to lead meetings and conduct trainings.
  • Ability to negotiate with the public, customers, and employees for the organization's benefit.
  • Ability to read and write procedures, instructions, and reports.
  • Ability to analyze and compile data and records.
  • Ability to perform an expanding range of professional workplace safety assignments in a developing capacity.
  • Ability to conduct training needs assessments, design and deliver curriculum and training for all personnel.
  • Ability to compile and make formal presentations of safety data, accident/incident investigations, training recommendations and evaluations, and assessments to management and customers.
