About the position

Join our team at Nashua Transit System as an Operations and Safety Manager! This full-time position is crucial for overseeing the delivery of service, safety, and training for our staff of approximately 30 drivers. The Operations and Safety Manager will work closely with the city's Transit Authority, ensuring that all operations align with safety standards and regulations. In this position, you will be responsible for performing drivers' onboarding, training, safety evaluations, and ride checks. You will observe drivers in action and prescribe necessary retraining when required. Responding to service problems, including rerouting and passenger events, is a key part of the role, with the goal of restoring interrupted service efficiently. You will also investigate accidents and incidents, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed and that any issues are addressed promptly. As a direct supervisor of drivers, you will lead, coach, and discipline staff up to the Written Warning level of progressive discipline. You may also need to provide relief to service provision by driving in revenue service if required. Reviewing and investigating Drive Cam video footage will be part of your responsibilities, applying appropriate interactions with drivers according to established policies. Your leadership will be essential in demonstrating safe work behaviors and adhering to all company rules and policies. Effective communication with management personnel regarding operational or safety issues is vital, as is coordinating efforts toward their resolution. You will assist drivers with passenger needs and coordinate with departmental managers to address roadside problems. Additionally, you will prepare and maintain reports and perform clerical activities associated with operations. Assisting the General Manager in administering the company's Drug and Alcohol testing and Work Comp programs will also be part of your duties. Overall, this role requires a commitment to safety and high-quality service, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and work cooperatively with other managers and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform drivers' onboarding, training, safety evaluations, and ride checks.
  • Respond to service problems including rerouting and passenger events to restore interrupted service.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents.
  • Directly supervise drivers, leading, coaching, and disciplining them up to the Written Warning level of progressive discipline.
  • Provide relief to service provision by driving in revenue service if required.
  • Review and investigate Drive Cam video and interact with drivers according to established policies.
  • Demonstrate safe work behaviors and follow all company rules and policies.
  • Investigate and respond to situation reports and potential unsafe locations, making reports and recommendations.
  • Effectively communicate with management personnel regarding operational or safety issues and coordinate efforts toward resolution.
  • Provide passenger assistance to drivers and coordinate with departmental managers to address roadside problems.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and perform clerical activities associated with operations.
  • Assist the General Manager in administering the company's Drug and Alcohol testing and Work Comp programs.
  • Supervise staff and direct, coach, discipline, retrain or coordinate retraining within established guidelines.
  • Document employee actions within established guidelines.
  • Work in cooperation with other managers and supervisors to ensure seamless, safe, high-quality service to passengers.

  • Assist in the investigation of passenger comments and other matters in close coordination with others.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • CDL Class B or A license with passenger endorsement.
  • Two years' experience as a Driver or Supervisor for public transportation service.
  • Previous public transit driving and supervision experience preferred.
  • Ability to drive public transit vehicles.
  • Ability to apply progressive coaching and discipline consistently and timely in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret transit system operating rules, regulations, policies, phases, and routes.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers on all levels and work well with diverse groups.
  • Must be able to take a leadership role in solving problems.
  • Must demonstrate satisfactory technical knowledge.
