About the position

The Operations Safety Specialist (Transportation) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of operations within the airline catering sector. This position is responsible for training new Customer Service Representatives (CSR Drivers) and Customer Service Assistants (CSA Driver's Assistants) in accordance with the requirements set forth by Gate Gourmet and the airlines. The specialist will monitor ramp safety on a shift basis, ensuring that all safety protocols are adhered to and that all new hires are adequately trained to operate company vehicles in the catering process. This includes maintaining up-to-date safety books and ensuring that all CSR's and CSA's possess valid Airport Operation Area (AOA) badges, renewing them in a timely manner. In addition to training and compliance, the Operations Safety Specialist will conduct recurrent training sessions and assist in investigations related to safety incidents. The role requires a thorough understanding of DOT requirements, if applicable, and the ability to monitor safety compliance within the building. The specialist will also be responsible for obtaining and reviewing Motor Vehicle Reports to ensure compliance with company standards. This position demands excellent communication skills, as the specialist will interact with both internal unit employees and external customers, ensuring that safety and operational standards are met consistently. The work environment is fast-paced, requiring the ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining focus on priorities. The specialist must be detail-oriented and compliance-driven, with a strong emphasis on delivering training effectively. The role may involve working various shifts and days, and the ability to lift, pull, push, and move products and equipment is essential. Responsibilities

  • Train new Customer Service Representatives (CSR Drivers) and Customer Service Assistants (CSA Driver's Assistants) according to Gate Gourmet and airline requirements.
  • Monitor ramp safety on a shift basis to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Ensure all safety books are up to date according to company policy.
  • Verify that CSR's and CSA's have current Airport Operation Area (AOA) badges and manage timely renewals.
  • Conduct recurrent training for existing staff to maintain safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT requirements where applicable.
  • Monitor safety compliance within the building and assist in safety investigations.
  • Obtain and review Motor Vehicle Reports for compliance with company standards.
  • Work various shifts and days as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • In-flight catering experience as a CSR (Driver) or six months of safety experience in a transportation company.
  • Valid Driver's License (CDL if applicable).
  • AOA Security Badge and Custom Seal (if applicable).
  • Forklift Certification (if applicable).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current or previous labor relations experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in using safety management systems.
