The Operations Specialist 3 position at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a critical role within the Utilities and Infrastructure (UI) department, specifically focusing on the Electric, Steam, and Turbine (EST) operations team. This team is responsible for maintaining and operating the Laboratory's traffic and utility systems, which include electric, gas, sewer, steam, and water. The selected candidate will play a vital role in supporting the Laboratory's efforts to achieve net-zero emissions and will be involved in managing the parking and transportation services on site. The Operations Specialist will report directly to the UI-EST group leader and will assist in coordinating project milestones related to electrical transmission and distribution system projects. This includes working closely with the Electric Power Capacity Upgrade and the EST operations to ensure seamless project execution. In addition to project coordination, the Operations Specialist will participate in the UI Duty Officer program, which involves covering off-hours operations. This role requires a strong technical background, as the candidate will need to interpret various mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics. A deep understanding of safety practices, work hazards, and lock-out/tag-out policies is essential, particularly in relation to medium and high voltage equipment. The position also demands advanced problem-solving skills, as the candidate will be expected to conduct research and develop innovative solutions to complex operational challenges. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree and at least five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired qualifications include advanced knowledge of the Laboratory's operations policies, switching procedures, and reliability requirements set by organizations such as the North American Electric Corporation (NERC) and the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC). Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and regulations pertaining to electric power generation, transmission, and distribution is also highly desirable. This full-time position is based on-site in Los Alamos, NM, and offers a variety of schedule options, excluding the 4/10 schedule.
