About the position

The Operations Specialist Level 3 at Woodward plays a crucial role in supporting production from a technical standpoint, possessing a deep understanding of the products being manufactured. This position serves as the first line of defense and a consultant to other Operations Specialists regarding production-related issues. The Operations Specialist collaborates closely with engineering teams to facilitate the implementation of new products and processes, addressing complex manufacturing challenges and driving process improvements. In this role, the Operations Specialist is responsible for independently developing new production cells, enhancing workflow, increasing production velocity, and minimizing waste. They lead regular 5S events to maintain organization and efficiency in the workspace. The specialist is tasked with resolving production issues through thorough Root Cause Analysis and is expected to recommend and implement process improvements for both new product introductions and existing manufacturing processes. This includes working with engineering to develop new processes and identifying errors in manufacturing documents, providing necessary revisions to ensure accuracy. Additionally, the Operations Specialist writes and releases new work instructions and updates existing manufacturing documentation. They evaluate new tooling for its applicability to current designs and recommend revisions to methods of operation, material handling, and equipment layout to boost production and improve standards. The role also involves the disposition of standard nonconformances, such as Quality Notifications (QNs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and Action Tracking Reports (ATRs).

Responsibilities

  • Independently develops new cells, improves flow, increases velocity, and reduces waste.
  • Leads regularly scheduled 5S events.
  • Collaborates with engineers to resolve production issues and performs Root Cause Analysis.
  • Recommends and implements process improvements for new product introductions and/or existing manufacturing processes.
  • Identifies mistakes and improvements on various manufacturing documents and provides redlines to engineering.
  • Writes and releases new work instructions and other manufacturing documentation; revises existing work instructions and other manufacturing documentation.
  • Evaluates new tooling for application to current designs.
  • Recommends and implements revisions of methods of operation or material handling, alterations in equipment layout or other changes to increase production or improve standards.
  • Dispositions standard nonconformance's (i.e. QNs/NCRs/ATRs).

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in machining/manufacturing industry.
  • Advanced written/verbal communication skills to all levels of the organization including customers and/or suppliers.
  • Advanced understanding of six sigma tools and lean principles.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to manufacture complicated parts or assemblies with preliminary drawings.
  • Able to operate complicated test or manufacturing equipment.
  • Able to interpret complicated schematics or drawings and identify mistakes; strong GD&T knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and/or design/training/implementation of processes including setup/programming/training for tooling, fixturing, and manufacturing aids.
  • Strong interpretation of specifications and participation in hardware disposition.
