About the position

The Operations Specialist role at Excel Federal Credit Union involves performing a variety of functions within the operations department, including processing checks, managing accounts, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage risks associated with deposit operations while maintaining effective communication with members and associates.

Responsibilities

  • Process remote deposit items, return checks, negative accounts, and dormant accounts within specified timeframes.
  • Monitor and manage risks associated with deposit operations, including fraud detection and prevention.
  • Ensure settlement activity deadlines are met with minimal errors to avoid losses to the Credit Union.
  • Communicate with members regarding transactions, overdrafts, account closures, and fees.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for periodic audits and examinations.
  • Track member growth and retention rates to reflect departmental impact on overall performance.
  • Respond to inquiries from IRS, SSA, and other government agencies regarding member accounts.
  • Manage processes related to deceased and dormant accounts.
  • Review and process negative balance reports for month-end reporting.
  • Mail notices related to levies, garnishments, and loans.
  • Process daily debit card disputes and monitor suspicious card activity.
  • Coordinate workflow and scheduling to meet processing deadlines.
  • Cross-train in other daily processes to assist when needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of relevant experience in operations at a financial institution.
  • 1+ years of operations experience at a financial institution.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for maintaining good business relationships.
  • Proficiency in 10-key and general office equipment.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Email).
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize large volumes of work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in identifying issues and developing effective solutions.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Flexibility in adjusting to new situations and challenges.
