About the position

The Operations Specialist position at ALTA IT Services is a contract-to-hire role based in Germantown, Maryland, primarily focused on supporting the manufacturing operations facility. This role requires a hands-on approach, as the specialist will be responsible for operating a forklift and managing various shipping duties. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, to effectively interact with both internal and external customers. The Operations Specialist will handle orders via email and phone, manage escalations of problems, track packages, and ensure accuracy in all operations. Attention to detail is paramount in this role, as the specialist will be responsible for processing and confirming picks, deliveries, and sales orders using SAP software on a daily basis. In addition to the technical skills required, the Operations Specialist will also need to demonstrate reliability and professionalism, ideally having previous experience as a floor manager in a warehouse setting. This position involves training alongside a current employee who is being promoted, with the expectation that the new hire will eventually take over that role. The work environment is dynamic, with the potential for extra hours during busy periods, including late nights and occasional weekends. The Operations Specialist will also be responsible for packing domestic and international sales orders, creating shipping labels, and monitoring shipping supplies, all while providing status updates to internal business groups.

Responsibilities

  • Use SAP software to process and confirm picks, deliveries, and sales orders.
  • Review and take action on multiple daily shipping reports.
  • Pack domestic and international sales orders.
  • Create shipping labels for small package outbound UPS and FEDEX.
  • Pick, process, and load palletized truck load orders.
  • Monitor and initiate requisitions for shipping supplies as warranted.
  • Interact with internal customers (Business Groups) to fulfill their sales order demands and provide status updates.
  • Contact freight companies for pick-ups.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Forklift Certification
  • MS Office proficiency

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates degree
  • Good English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong PC skills including the ability to learn new software applications.
  • Experience with SAP is preferred
  • Previous warehouse and/or outbound shipment experience
