About the position

CHS Inc. is seeking a dedicated Operations Specialist to join our team in Glenwood, Minnesota. This full-time position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our facility, which is integral to our mission of empowering agriculture. The Operations Specialist will work under general supervision to carry out a variety of general labor responsibilities efficiently and promptly. This includes developing and maintaining knowledge of the commodities handled at the location, ensuring compliance with company policies and government regulations, and providing excellent customer service. The role involves preparing trucks and railcars for loading and unloading, which may require tasks such as sampling, loosening large nuts, opening hatches, and attaching or detaching flexible hoses. The Operations Specialist will also be responsible for loading and unloading agricultural inputs from railcars and trucks using both heavy and light-duty machinery and equipment. This may include handling bulk and packaged materials, controlling and monitoring all load-out functions, and operating automated scale and dump systems. In addition to these responsibilities, the Operations Specialist will conduct and properly record maintenance tasks, monitor and maintain inventory quality, and deliver products such as fertilizer, chemicals, seeds, and feed to customer sites. Maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe work environment is essential, and the specialist will perform regular housekeeping duties, grounds maintenance, and warehouse work, including forklift operation. The role requires prompt reporting of any customer complaints, maintenance needs, or safety concerns to the supervisor, and a strong commitment to safety culture and compliance with all safety policies and procedures is paramount. The Operations Specialist will also be expected to perform other duties as needed to ensure the facility operates smoothly and that customers receive excellent service. Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the commodities handled at the location and comply with company policy and government regulations pertaining to commodities.
  • Work with customers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Prepare trucks and railcars for loading/unloading, which may require sampling, loosening large nuts, opening hatches, and attaching and/or detaching flexible hoses.
  • Load and unload agricultural inputs from railcars and/or trucks using heavy or light duty machinery/equipment.
  • Control and monitor all load out functions.
  • Understand and operate automated scale/dump systems.
  • Conduct and properly record daily, weekly and monthly maintenance tasks including lubrication of pumps, valves, and loading arms.
  • Inspect in-use equipment looking for seeps and leaks of process equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain quality of inventory (may include blended, bulk or packaged product).
  • Deliver products such as fertilizer, chemical, seed, feed and others to customer sites.
  • Keep all work areas in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
  • Conduct regular housekeeping duties such as sweeping, shoveling, power washing, scraping and cleaning up spills.
  • Perform grounds maintenance including snow removal.
  • Perform warehouse work including driving loader, loading/unloading inventory, forklift operation, and general maintenance.
  • Promptly report any customer complaints, repair or maintenance needs, or safety concerns to supervisor.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned to ensure facility operates smoothly and customers receive excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • Must meet minimum age requirement.
  • 1+ years of experience in Operations and/or Business Operations.
  • Ability to operate machinery such as loaders, conveyors, tractors, and track mobile.
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons to meet business demands.

Nice-to-haves

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Agriculture experience preferred.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
