About the position

CHS Brandon is seeking an Operations Specialist to join our team in Brandon, SD. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of our facility and providing excellent service to our customers. The Operations Specialist will work under general supervision to carry out various general labor responsibilities efficiently and promptly. This position requires a strong understanding of the commodities handled at our location, as well as compliance with company policies and government regulations related to these commodities. The successful candidate will be expected to interact with customers in a courteous and professional manner, ensuring their needs are met while maintaining the highest standards of service. In this role, the Operations Specialist will be responsible for preparing trucks and railcars for loading and unloading. This may involve tasks such as sampling, loosening large nuts, opening hatches, and attaching or detaching flexible hoses. The position also includes loading and unloading agricultural inputs from railcars and trucks using both heavy and light-duty machinery and equipment, which may include bulk and packaged materials. The specialist will control and monitor all load-out functions and must understand how to operate automated scale and dump systems. Additionally, the Operations Specialist will conduct and properly record daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks, ensuring that the quality of inventory is maintained. This may involve monitoring blended, bulk, or packaged products. The role also includes keeping all work areas clean, orderly, and safe, which involves regular housekeeping duties such as sweeping, shoveling, power washing, scraping, and cleaning up spills. Grounds maintenance, including snow removal, and warehouse work, such as driving loaders and operating forklifts, are also part of the job responsibilities. The Operations Specialist will be expected to promptly report any customer complaints, repair or maintenance needs, or safety concerns to their supervisor. A strong safety culture is paramount, and the specialist must follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations, identifying and communicating workplace hazards and seeking assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions. The role may also require performing other duties as needed or assigned to ensure the facility operates smoothly and customers receive excellent service.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out general labor responsibilities promptly and efficiently under general supervision.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the commodities handled at the location and comply with company policy and government regulations.

  • Perform grounds maintenance including snow removal.
  • Perform warehouse work including driving loader, loading/unloading inventory, forklift operation, and general maintenance.
  • Promptly report any customer complaints, repair or maintenance needs, or safety concerns to supervisor.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
