About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader with relevant experience and skills to join our team of logistics professionals as an Operations Supervisor. This role is critical in providing operational leadership at one of our warehousing operations, ensuring that customer requirements are met while achieving Penske's goals and objectives. The Operations Supervisor will oversee daily tasks and activities, including loading and unloading of trailers, cross-docking, and customer service operations, all while maintaining consistency with company services and cost objectives. In this position, the Operations Supervisor will directly supervise most processes, including workforce and equipment scheduling. This role involves making corrective action and disciplinary decisions up to the written warning level, as well as participating in the hiring process and customer meetings as necessary. The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for establishing and sustaining training for all supervisors and associates, ensuring they understand how their work relates to the customers' business objectives. Performance standards will be communicated clearly, and the supervisor will monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance metrics, providing coaching and counseling to associates as needed. The Operations Supervisor will also be tasked with evaluating and recommending changes in preferred work methods to increase productivity, conducting team meetings, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures. Safety is a top priority, and the supervisor will ensure that day-to-day management aligns with the location's safety strategy, providing associates with the necessary communication, training, feedback, and direction to ensure safe performance. Additionally, the Operations Supervisor will work closely with associates to ensure they understand the safe and efficient operation of equipment, and will manage the relationship with vendors to ensure equipment maintenance. This role is essential in driving process improvement and leading change within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch and proper documentation and procedure control.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate performance standards that are specific and measurable.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards and provide coaching and counseling to associates.
  • Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures such as inventory accuracy and control, returns, damages, etc.
  • Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities are in alignment with the location safety strategy.
  • Understand the location-specific customer goals & objectives and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily.
  • Properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of warehouse equipment.
  • Work with vendors to ensure equipment is maintained.

Requirements

  • 2 - 4 years related functional experience required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and the ability to actively listen are required.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required.
  • Demonstrated ownership & responsibility to run the operation with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to connect and build rapport/relationships with associates and external customers at all levels.
  • Ability to work efficiently with time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage through a problem and think and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to drive process improvement and lead change.
  • Experience with inventory management system preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in logistics or supply chain management is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards in a warehouse environment.
