About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking an energetic and team-oriented leader to join our team of transportation and logistics professionals as an Operations Supervisor. This role is pivotal in providing operational leadership at a single location, ensuring that our customer requirements are met while achieving Penske's goals and objectives. The Operations Supervisor will supervise a team of drivers, providing direction and support to ensure the execution of daily tasks, including driver deliveries and customer service operations, in alignment with Penske's service and cost objectives. The position requires a commitment to safety, effective communication, and a focus on continuous improvement. The typical work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with occasional weekend coverage as needed. The salary for this position ranges from $65,000 to $70,000 annually, with the potential for a bonus of up to 12% of the base salary.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities align with the location's safety strategy.
  • Provide associates with communication, training, feedback, and direction to ensure safe performance.
  • Conduct safety observations onsite and in the field.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies and company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate specific and measurable performance standards to the team.
  • Engage daily with truck drivers and onsite customer leadership to ensure their needs are met.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards, providing coaching and counseling to associates as needed.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and proper documentation and procedure control.
  • Assist in new associate training and provide relief coverage for operational duties when associates are absent.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the site's operating systems to ensure operational compliance and correct exception resolution.
  • Complete all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Understand location-specific customer goals and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily.
  • Identify areas that could benefit from Continuous Improvement efforts.
  • Plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment.
  • Work with associates to ensure they understand the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure equipment maintenance and with Penske Truck Leasing for preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Complete other projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to actively listen.
  • Ability to manage through problems, think critically, and make decisions independently.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
