About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking an Operations Supervisor for the night shift to provide operational leadership at our South Windsor, CT location. This role is crucial in supervising drivers and ensuring that customer requirements are met while achieving Penske's goals and objectives. The Operations Supervisor will lead a team of 50-60 drivers, focusing on delivering exceptional service and maintaining operational efficiency. The position requires a commitment to excellence, innovation, and a strong ability to motivate and engage team members. The schedule for this role is from Wednesday to Saturday, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, allowing for a focused work environment during the night shift. In this position, the Operations Supervisor will oversee daily tasks and activities, including driver deliveries, loading and unloading of trailers, and customer service operations. The supervisor will be responsible for performance management, ensuring that all associates are trained and competent, and that performance standards are communicated effectively. The role also involves monitoring attendance and productivity, providing coaching and counseling to associates, and conducting team meetings to foster a collaborative work environment. The Operations Supervisor will play a key role in ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures, managing associates' working hours to minimize overtime, and maintaining safety standards in alignment with the location's safety strategy. This position requires a strong understanding of customer goals and objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement to enhance customer experience. The supervisor will also be involved in planning work assignments, managing fleet equipment, and collaborating with vendors to ensure equipment maintenance. Overall, this role is essential for driving operational success and achieving customer satisfaction in the logistics and transportation sector.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities including driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch and proper documentation and procedure control.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate and recommend changes in preferred work methods to increase productivity of dispatch operations.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards and provide coaching and counseling to associates.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies & procedures such as tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.
  • Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities are aligned with the location safety strategy.
  • Understand the location-specific customer goals & objectives and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily.
  • Properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment and ensure associates understand safe and efficient operation of equipment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect, build rapport and maintain solid relationships with associates, Company leadership, internal and external customers.
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and the ability to actively listen are required.
  • Ability to manage through a problem, think critically, and make decisions independently.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $65,000-$70,000 annually with bonus eligibility up to 12% of base salary.
