About the position

The Operations Supervisor at Penske Logistics is a pivotal role that requires a dynamic and energetic leader to oversee the operations of a transportation and logistics facility during the night shift. This position is based in Batavia, IL, and is responsible for supervising a team of 20-30 drivers, ensuring that all customer requirements are met while adhering to the company's goals and objectives. The Operations Supervisor will provide operational leadership to individual contributors and the hourly workforce, ensuring the execution of daily tasks such as driver deliveries, loading and unloading of trailers, and customer service operations. This role demands a strong focus on process improvement, team motivation, and effective communication to drive operational success. The schedule for this position is from Wednesday to Saturday, 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, which aligns with the operational needs of the facility. The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for performance management of direct reports, making corrective actions, and participating in the hiring process. This role also involves conducting team meetings, evaluating work methods to enhance productivity, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and financial policies. The ideal candidate will possess a transportation background, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to excellence in customer service. In addition to operational responsibilities, the Operations Supervisor will play a crucial role in fostering a positive work environment by motivating and engaging associates, recognizing team accomplishments, and ensuring that all staff are trained and competent in their roles. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making, with a focus on achieving productivity targets and maintaining a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure execution of daily tasks and activities.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and proper documentation and procedure control.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate preferred work methods to increase productivity of dispatch operations.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards, providing coaching and counseling to associates.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies & procedures such as tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.
  • Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities are aligned with the location safety strategy.
  • Understand the location-specific customer goals & objectives and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily.
  • Properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and the ability to actively listen.
  • Ability to manage through a problem, think critically, and make decisions independently.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $65,000 - $70,000 annually with bonus eligibility up to 12% of base salary.
  • Bi-weekly shift differential of $205.00 for working the night shift.
