About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader with relevant experience and skills to join our team of transportation and logistics professionals. The Operations Supervisor will provide operational leadership at a single location, supervising drivers and ensuring that customer requirements are met while achieving Penske's goals and objectives. This role is critical in maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of logistics operations, which include driver deliveries, loading and unloading of trailers, and customer service operations. The Operations Supervisor will work closely with a team of 50-60 drivers, providing direction and support to ensure that all tasks are executed in a manner consistent with company services and cost objectives. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and team-oriented leader, focused on commitment to customers, dedication to excellence, and innovation. They should possess a proven ability to supervise processes and activities, as well as a demonstrated ability to motivate, engage, coach, and communicate effectively with team members. The Operations Supervisor will also be responsible for performance management of direct reports, making corrective action and disciplinary decisions, and being involved in the hiring process and customer meetings as necessary. This position requires a strong background in transportation, excellent communication skills, and a goal-oriented mindset. The Operations Supervisor will be expected to establish and sustain training for all supervisors and associates, monitor attendance and productivity, and provide coaching and counseling to associates. Additionally, they will supervise logistics operations, conduct team meetings, and evaluate changes in work methods to increase productivity. The role also involves ensuring compliance with financial policies, managing associates' working hours, and aligning day-to-day activities with the location's safety strategy. Overall, the Operations Supervisor plays a vital role in driving process improvement and leading change within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities including driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch and proper documentation and procedure control.
  • Establish and sustain that all supervisors and associates are trained and competent and understand how their work relates to the customers' business objectives.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards and provide coaching and counseling to associates.
  • Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate and recommend changes in preferred work methods to increase productivity of dispatch operations.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies & procedures such as tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.
  • Provide associates with communication, training, feedback, and direction to ensure safe performance.
  • Understand the location-specific customer goals & objectives and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily.
  • Properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect, build rapport and maintain solid relationships with associates, company leadership, internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and the ability to actively listen are required.
  • Ability to manage through a problem, think critically, and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to drive process improvement and lead change.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required.
  • Must demonstrate ownership & responsibility to run the operation with a sense of urgency.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $68,000-$72,000 annually and bonus eligible up to 12% of base salary.
