About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking an energetic and team-oriented Operations Supervisor for the night shift to lead our transportation and logistics team. This role is crucial in providing operational leadership at a single location, ensuring that customer requirements are met while achieving Penske's goals and objectives. The Operations Supervisor will supervise a team of 30 to 40 drivers, providing direction and support to ensure the execution of daily tasks, including driver deliveries, loading and unloading of trailers, and customer service operations. The position requires a strong focus on commitment to customers, dedication to excellence, and a drive for continuous improvement. The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for establishing and maintaining training programs for all supervisors and associates, ensuring they are competent and understand how their work relates to customer business objectives. This includes monitoring attendance, productivity, and performance standards, providing coaching and counseling to associates, and motivating the team by focusing on accomplishments and recognition. The supervisor will also conduct team meetings, evaluate work methods to increase productivity, and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures. In addition to operational responsibilities, the Operations Supervisor will play a key role in safety management, ensuring that all activities align with the location's safety strategy. This includes providing training and feedback to associates, conducting safety observations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and company policies. The supervisor will also work closely with vendors and Penske Truck Leasing to maintain fleet equipment and ensure preventative maintenance schedules are met. Overall, this position is vital for driving process improvement, leading change, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities including driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations.
  • Establish and sustain that all supervisors and associates are trained and competent and understand how their work relates to the customers' business objectives.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards and provide coaching and counseling to associates.
  • Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch and proper documentation and procedure control.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate and recommend changes in preferred work methods to increase productivity of dispatch operations.
  • Provide relief coverage for operational duties when associates utilize time-off or are absent from the shift.
  • Complete all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies & procedures such as tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.
  • Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities are aligned with the location safety strategy.
  • Understand the location-specific customer goals & objectives and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily.
  • Properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect, build rapport and maintain solid relationships with associates, Company leadership, internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and the ability to actively listen are required.
  • Ability to manage through a problem, think critically, and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to drive process improvement and lead change.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $68,000-$72,000 annually with bonus eligibility up to 12% of base salary.
  • Bi-weekly shift differential of $205.00 for working the night shift.
