About the position
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing waste handling activities during a specific work shift, ensuring safety and compliance with procedures. This role involves supervising personnel, managing inventory, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring proper waste treatment and documentation. The supervisor also participates in training and emergency response operations, while directly managing a team to maintain efficient operations.
Responsibilities
- Supervises the activities of operations personnel.
- Supervises inventory compliance and the maintenance of supplies.
- Coordinates with vendors, transporters, and treatment facilities.
- Ensures housekeeping of all waste handling/processing areas of the plant and proper storage of process chemicals.
- Directs off-loading operations for receipt of materials into the facility's storage and waste processing systems.
- Ensures safe and effective treatment of wastes by collecting and analyzing waste samples from inbound trucks.
- Makes decisions consistent with waste profile data and facility operating permits.
- Determines batch clearance approvals for filtering of effluent.
- Collects post-treatment samples to determine suitability for ultimate disposition of treated waste.
- Notifies appropriate personnel of maintenance requirements for plant and transportation equipment.
- Reviews and signs RCRA manifests.
- Ensures all personnel abide by safety rules and procedures.
- Trains facility personnel on processing procedures.
- Participates in emergency response operations related to facility activities and transportation.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, and performance appraisal.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in operations supervision.
- Knowledge of hazardous waste management.
- Knowledge of personnel management, operations, equipment, and waste processing techniques.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple responsibilities with attention to detail.
