About the position

The Operations Supervisor at Penske Logistics is responsible for providing operational leadership at a single location, overseeing drivers and ensuring that customer requirements are met while achieving company goals. This role involves managing daily logistics operations, supervising staff, and driving process improvements to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction. The position requires strong leadership skills, the ability to motivate and engage team members, and a commitment to safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and sustain training for all supervisors and associates to ensure competency and alignment with customer objectives.
  • Communicate specific and measurable performance standards to the team.
  • Interview and recommend hiring of hourly associates.
  • Monitor attendance and productivity, providing coaching and counseling as needed.
  • Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading/unloading, and dispatch.
  • Conduct team meetings to discuss operations and performance.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes to improve productivity in dispatch operations.
  • Provide relief coverage for operational duties during absences.
  • Ensure operational compliance and resolve exceptions using site operating systems.
  • Complete necessary records and reports accurately and timely.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, tracking metrics like MPG and damages.
  • Manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime and meet productivity targets.
  • Align daily management activities with the location's safety strategy.
  • Provide training and feedback to ensure safe performance by associates.
  • Understand and work towards meeting location-specific customer goals and objectives.
  • Identify areas for Continuous Improvement efforts.
  • Plan work assignments for effective use of fleet equipment.
  • Ensure associates understand safe and efficient operation of equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment maintenance and with Penske Truck Leasing for preventative maintenance schedules.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with active listening ability.
  • Ability to manage problems, think critically, and make independent decisions.
  • Proven ability to drive process improvement and lead change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ownership and responsibility to run operations with a sense of urgency.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
