About the position

The Operations Supervisor at Penske Logistics is responsible for providing operational leadership at a transportation location, ensuring that customer requirements are met while achieving company goals. This role involves supervising drivers and overseeing logistics operations, including loading/unloading of trailers and customer service. The position requires strong leadership skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to drive process improvements within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and documentation control.
  • Establish and sustain training for all supervisors and associates to ensure competency.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and performance standards, providing coaching and counseling as needed.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate changes in work methods to increase productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and track metrics such as MPG and damages.
  • Manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime and meet productivity targets.
  • Ensure day-to-day activities align with safety strategies and compliance with regulations.
  • Plan work assignments for effective use of fleet equipment and maintain vendor relationships.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to actively listen.
  • Ability to manage problems, think critically, and make independent decisions.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in logistics or supply chain management.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
