About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader with relevant experience and skills to join our team of transportation and logistics professionals. The Operations Supervisor will provide operational leadership at a single location, guiding staff to ensure that customer requirements are met while achieving Penske's goals and objectives. This role involves supervising drivers and overseeing daily tasks and activities, including driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations, all in alignment with company services and cost objectives. The Operations Supervisor will directly supervise most processes, including workforce and equipment scheduling, and will be responsible for performance management of direct reports, making corrective action and disciplinary decisions up to the written warning level. Additionally, the supervisor will be involved in the hiring process and customer meetings as necessary. The Operations Supervisor will establish and sustain training for all supervisors and associates, ensuring they understand how their work relates to customer business objectives. Performance standards will be communicated clearly, and the supervisor will monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance metrics, providing coaching and counseling to associates as needed. The role also includes motivating and engaging associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition. In terms of operations, the supervisor will oversee logistics operations, including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and proper documentation and procedure control. Conducting team meetings, evaluating preferred work methods to increase productivity, and providing relief coverage for operational duties are also key responsibilities. The supervisor must have a thorough working knowledge of the site's operating systems to ensure operational compliance and correct exception resolution, completing all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate manner. Financially, the Operations Supervisor will ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, such as tracking MPG, returns, and damages, while understanding the relationship between decision-making and profitability. They will closely manage associates' working hours and activities to minimize overtime and meet or exceed productivity targets. Safety is a critical aspect of this role, as the supervisor will ensure that day-to-day management and associate activities align with the location's safety strategy. This includes providing communication, training, feedback, and direction to ensure safe performance and compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies and company policies. Conducting safety observations will also be part of the responsibilities. The Operations Supervisor will work to understand location-specific customer goals and objectives, ensuring that the customer knows Penske is committed to helping them meet their objectives. They will identify areas that could benefit from Continuous Improvement efforts and properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment. The supervisor will collaborate with hourly associates to ensure they understand the safe and efficient operation of equipment and will work with vendors to maintain equipment and ensure the schedule of preventative maintenance is complete. Other projects and tasks may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with financial policies & procedures such as tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.
  • Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities are aligned with the location safety strategy.
  • Understand the location-specific customer goals & objectives and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily.
  • Properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $58,600 - $68,000, bonus eligible up to 12% of the base salary.
