About the position

Penske Truck Leasing is seeking highly motivated and qualified applicants for the position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This unique role involves the delivery and return of vehicles to various Penske locations and customers. The primary responsibility of this position is to move box trucks up to 26 feet in length, and for those with a CDL Class A license, it will also include the movement of tractors and trailers. Additionally, the role may require assisting the service department by delivering parts and equipment as needed. This is a casual, on-call part-time truck driving job, ideal for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers who are looking for supplemental income. The hours for this position can vary significantly, ranging from 0 to 25 hours per week, depending on business needs. The position is based at the Penske facility located at 436 Riverside Avenue in Medford, MA, and requires flexibility in scheduling to meet the demands of the business. In this role, drivers must adhere to safety procedures while transporting vehicles to their destinations, which may include both Penske locations and customer sites. It is essential for drivers to check vehicles to ensure that all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is functioning properly and to report any issues to the location manager. Drivers will also be responsible for obtaining receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collecting payments when necessary. Reporting vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or any damage to the vehicles is also a critical part of the job. Other projects and tasks may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Responsibilities

• Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to destination of Penske location or customer locations
• Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order, report to location manager if any issues are found
• Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
• Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

• 2 years of driving experience required
• 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record required
• CDL Class B license required
• CDL Class A license preferred
• Ability to read and follow written instructions is required
• Ability to work independently, customer service skills, organizational skills, and a positive attitude are required
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required
