About the position

Penske Logistics is seeking an energetic and team-oriented Operations Supervisor to lead our transportation and logistics team at our Minooka, IL location. This role is pivotal in providing operational leadership to our individual contributors and hourly workforce, ensuring that daily tasks and activities are executed efficiently and effectively. The Operations Supervisor will oversee driver deliveries, loading and unloading of trailers, and customer service operations, all while aligning with our company’s service and cost objectives. This position requires a proven ability to supervise processes and activities, as well as a commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence. In this role, you will be responsible for supervising logistics operations, which includes managing customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and ensuring proper documentation and procedure control. You will conduct team meetings, evaluate work methods to enhance productivity, and provide training for new associates. Additionally, you will be involved in performance management, making corrective actions, and participating in the hiring process. Your leadership will be crucial in motivating and engaging associates, focusing on team accomplishments and recognition. The Operations Supervisor will also ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime, and maintain a strong focus on safety. You will provide training and feedback to associates to ensure safe performance and compliance with regulatory agencies. Understanding customer goals and objectives is essential, as you will work to meet and exceed these expectations daily. This role requires a thorough knowledge of the site’s operating systems to ensure operational compliance and effective exception resolution. Overall, this position is designed for a leader who is dedicated to driving process improvement, leading change, and fostering a culture of excellence within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and proper documentation and procedure control.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate work methods to increase productivity.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and performance standards, providing coaching and counseling to associates.
  • Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.
  • Manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime and meet productivity targets.
  • Ensure day-to-day management aligns with the location safety strategy and provide training and feedback to ensure safe performance.
  • Understand location-specific customer goals and work to meet and exceed these expectations.
  • Plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment and maintain communication with vendors for equipment maintenance.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to actively listen.
  • Ability to manage through problems, think critically, and make independent decisions.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
